Prasad Cosmetic Surgery

Eyebrow and Forehead Lift

If you look in the mirror and are bothered by deep furrows on the forehead, frown lines over the eyes, and drooping eyebrows, perhaps it’s time to consider a forehead/brow lift.

A brow lift or forehead lift removes the excess skin resulting in tightening up the forehead skin and raising the drooping eyebrows. Dr. Amiya Prasad whose offices for brow lift surgery are located in New York City and Garden City, NY will meet with you to determine the most effective method to alleviate the furrows and provide you more youthful appearance.

Brow Lift Surgical Procedure

Dr. Prasad performs his forehead/brow lifts in his Joint Commission Certified Operating Facilities in New York City and Garden City, Long Island, NY. The brow lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with light sedation and can take from 1 -2 hours. Since a brow lift can help reduce the frown lines between the eyes, it is frequently performed in conjunction with upper and/or lower eyelid surgery to achieve optimal results. Perform under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, the approach to a brow lift varies but usually Dr. Prasad uses techniques such as the endoscopic as well as the trichophytic (open lift) method which creates a more natural appearance and usually has a faster recovery time.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The endoscopic brow lift is a minimal incision approach. For deeper frown lines or lateral hooding of the upper lids, an endoscopic brow lift is performed, in which small incisions are made behind the hairline, using an endoscope and special instruments. The muscles pulling the brow down and creasing the forehead are relaxed. This allows the brow to be raised into a more natural position and gives one a youthful appearance. Using a tiny fiber optic lens inserted through half-inch incisions placed inconspicuously in your skin. The lens is attached to a camera, which is connected to a television, allowing for visualization of the surgery. Additional half-inch incisions are made for the insertion of tiny scalpels, scissors and retractors. Your surgeon performs the procedure while viewing the television monitor and manipulating the tiny instruments externally. Minimal-incision surgery is particularly useful with younger patients, where the removal of excess skin is not required.

After Dr. Prasad performs your minimal-incision facial surgery, there is a minimal amount of discomfort. There will be swelling and bruising that may last from 7 – 10 days. For some patients, this may include the cheeks and eyelids. Keeping your head elevated and applying cold compresses will help to reduce swelling. As your incisions heal, you will notice some itching and possibly some numbness. These symptoms will diminish over time. You may wear make-up after 3 days, and your sutures will be removed in 7 – 10 days. Strenuous activity is restricted for 6 weeks.

Mini Open Brow Lift (Trichophytic Method)

With the traditional technique, the Mini Open Brow Lift, a trichophytic incision is just behind the hairline. Hair will then re-grow through the scar, making any sign of surgery practically undetectable once fully healed. This method is subcutaneous, meaning that is done under the skin similar to a facelift . This technique is performed under local anesthesia with light sedation. Dr. Prasad will evaluate you as a candidate based on the areas of the brows that need to be lifted as well as your hairline.

Brow Lift Post-Treatment

As with any surgical procedure there can be mild pain and swelling after surgery that can last up to a week.  Numbeness and itching may also present itself and usually resolves over a month or so.

This procedure can be done instead of or along with blepharoplasty depending on the individual and the individual’s cosmetic goals.

Or if you prefer non-surgical and temporary solutions you may wish to discuss BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections and facial tissue fillers to temporarily correct the wrinkles and furrows on your forehead. (Refer to Non-Surgical Procedures).

The bottom line is as you age your facial features begin to show the signs of aging. Dr. Amiya Prasad advises that a forehead lift (brow lift) is a good option to correct a sagging brow or deep furrows between the eyes. A forehead lift can help give you a more youthful and alert appearance.
