SELPHYL® is a patented system for the safe and rapid preparation of Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM), a proven technology that Dr.Prasad is using to correct the effects of skin aging. The Dr.Prasad collects a small volume of blood from the patient and through a patented process, separates and concentrates the patients own platelets and fibrin into a matrix. The resulting PRFM can be applied to a treatment area of the face or body to stimulate cell proliferation which promotes the increase of volume and rejuvenation of the skin through a process of targeted tissue re-generation.
Because Nothing Is More Natural Than You…
The PRFM that is prepared with SELPHYL® is autologous, meaning it uses your natural biology. Platelets are known to contain factors which your body uses to trigger cell migration and proliferation to rejuvenate and increase skin volume. You can’t turn back the clock, but you can re-wind it naturally with the SELPHYL® System.
Natural, Lasting Effects…
As soon as SELPHYL® prepared PRFM is administered, growth factors are released into the skin through a sustained mechanism. In vitro studies have shown that platelet growth factors are released for up to 7 days, supporting collagen production and dermal matrix reconstruction. It is thought that SELPHYL® treats a root cause of skin aging by triggering the production of new cells and collagen. Pronounced effects occur approximately three weeks after the administration of SELPHYL®. Patients have enjoyed visible improvement and regeneration with long lasting effects.
Fast and Easy…
SELPHYL® is administered by Dr.Prasad in a procedure that takes approximately 20 minutes. Desired results may be achieved in just one visit. However, only Dr.Prasad will determine the best treatment approach. Together, you and Dr.Prasad may decide if SELPHYL® prepared PRFM is right for you, especially if you desire a natural solution to looking younger!
SELPHYL®PRFM, when injected, mimics the body’s natural wound healing response. Platelets not only help your blood for clots when you have a cut but also lead the way for wound healing and contain proteins which signal other cells come and repair the wound, mainly by producing new collagen. By administering PRFM to areas of volume loss, wrinkles and folds, we are able to signal the body’s own natural processes to produce new collagen- essentially stimulating your body’s own natural systems to “healing a wrinkle.”
How Selphyl® Works
SELPHYL® PRFM does have some limitations. It does require a small amount of blood to be drawn. There is a small amount of swelling for the first 3-6 hours after treatment. There is some mild “deflation” over the first 1-2 weeks, but after this the effects are relatively stable. Many patients will need more than one treatment, generally 3-4 weeks apart. SELPHYL® PRFM does not give the immediate effect of a Juvederm or Restylane; However, people who advocate natural and holistic lifestyles feel comfortable with SELPHYL without being concerned about any foreign material in their skin.
SELPHYL FAQs
What is the Selphyl process?
The Selphyl System is a new approach to anti-aging treatment which allows the specialist to prepare a Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix to use as a dermal filler using blood collected from the patient during an office visit. Using a centrifuge and a chemical catalyst, the specialist is able to divide the components of the blood to use only the platelets and fibrin to form a thickened concentrate to be used in facial restructuring.
What makes the Selphyl System work?
Selphyl is a natural autologous preparation which the body readily accepts. When injected just under the skin, it activates new skin cell growth and, over time, leads to a stronger collagen support structure. Selphyl discharges a protein which prompts new cells to grow and spread throughout the treatment area.
What areas of the body can be treated successfully with Selphyl?
Selphyl can be used to give a fuller appearance to skin divots, pock marks, and hollow cheeks. It can diminish the scars left by acne and greatly improve the lines around the mouth and nose which develop with time. Selphyl may be used on any area of the body which needs to be plumped or to create areas with more definition.
What are the benefits of Selphyl compared to other similar treatments?
The fact that Selphyl is created from the patient’s own body is the biggest advantage this system offers. This means allergic reactions almost never occur. The Selphyl process is finished in twenty minutes or less and is rarely uncomfortable. Selphyl stays fluid under the skin so there is never a need to be concerned about unsightly knots or clumping. The entire Selphyl process takes place in the specialist’s office and requires no general anesthesia. Because Selphyl does not burn or blister the face, infection is unlikely.
Who can be treated with Selphyl?
Patients of all ethnicities are candidates for Selphyl treatment. Doctors do feel that the Selphyl system should not be used on anyone already dealing with blood clotting issues or those who are presently on blood thinning medications. These include herbal treatments and vitamins, as well as commercially prepared medications such as aspirin. Also, patients already treating infections should wait until they have cleared before beginning treatment.
What happens at an appointment for Selphyl treatment?
First, blood will be drawn from the patient’s vein. Only 9cc of blood is needed to provide Selphyl for each treatment. After using the patient’s blood to prepare the filler, the dermatologist will inject Selphyl into the treatment area. It is placed just under the skin, but some doctors also choose to use a local anesthetic to prevent any discomfort.
What is the recovery after Selphyl treatment like?
Recovery after Selphyl treatment is relatively easy. Pain medication is not required, and the patient will only experience mild swelling and bruising for a day or two. A few may also have minor itching, but this is only a mild irritation.
What will I see after Selphyl treatment?
After two to three weeks, the treated area will look smoother as new cells fill in under the epidermis. The improvement seen will continue for several weeks until signs of aging are greatly diminished.
Does using Selphyl have any associated risks?
Because doctors follow a special protocol when working with blood products, the risk of infection is slight. Selphyl is safer than most other dermal fillers being used today and problems are rare.
Is the Selphyl System approved for use in the U.S.?
The FDA approved Selphyl for use by trained providers in the United States, and it has also been certified as safe in Europe.
Is Selphyl treatment covered by insurance companies?
Major insurance companies consider Selphyl treatment to be cosmetic and refuse coverage on this basis. Providers do sometimes agree to stretch payments over an extended period of time. It is best to ask about financing before the first Selphyl treatment.
