Chin Implants

Chin implants usually make a very dramatic difference to the face. Usually small chins or "weak" chins are traits that are genetic and run in families. There may also be developmental problems that did not allow for proper chin formation. Chin implants can also be considered when a patient has excess skin or fat in the neck. For these patients, liposuction along with the implant may be a good idea to rejuvenate their face. Chin implants are made from surgical silicone and are made in a variety of shapes and sizes. Dr. Prasad and the patient will spend a lot of time together to decide which type of implant is best for the patient's best result. Chin implants feel natural and follow along the edge of the jawline. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and IV sedation and takes about 30 to 60 minutes. Recovery time is about a week.

Chin implants are placed either internally through the mouth or externally through an incision in the natural crease of the chin. If a patient wants to remove or replace the implant it can be done under local anesthesia. After chin surgery, minor swelling, bruising and temporary numbness may occur but will resolve over 2 weeks.
